Today we are beginning a new book of the Bible - 1 Samuel. In this chapter, Samuel is born to Hannah who had been barren for years. She finally gave birth to a son, Samuel, and when he'd been weaned, she gave him to the Lord - which meant she gave him to Eli the prophet to raise. Wow! That's amazing faith!-----

S1 Ep63 - 1 Samuel 2

In this chapter, Hannah says a prayer of Thanksgiving for the birth of Samuel. She's given him up to the Lord to be raised by Eli. And we learn that Eli's sons are wicked, and there is a price to pay.-----

S1 Ep65 - 1 Samuel 4

Chapter 4 of 1 Samuel is action-packed and drama-filled. The Israelites lose control of the Ark of the Covenant. It is captured by the Philistines after they win multiple battles against Israel. Eli's wicked sons die on the same day. When 98-year-old Eli hears the Ark has been captured, he falls backwards in his chair, breaks his neck and dies. When Eli's pregnant daughter-in-law hears that her husband and father-in-law have died, she goes into labor and dies after giving birth.-----

In this chapter, the Philistines return the stolen Ark of God (Ark of the Covenant) because everyone has been afflicted with tumors and their cities have been overrun by rats! They send it back with a "guilt offering" - golden tumors and golden rats! What in the world?!!-----

S1 Ep69 - 1 Samuel 8

In Chapter 8 of 1 Samuel, we read that Samuel has grown old and his two sons who he appointed to follow in his footsteps are not good leaders. They accept bribes and pervert justice. So the people ask for a king to lead them "like other nations." At that time, God was their king. They rejected Him so that they could have a human, earthly king. What a shame.-----

In chapter 9, the people of Israel demand a king. Samuel is disappointed but God talks to him and tells him it's about a rejection of Him, not of Samuel. He tells Samuel to appoint a King and gives him signs about who the new king will be - Saul.-----

S1 Ep71 - 1 Samuel 10

In chapter 10, Samuel lets Saul know he is to be king. When Samuel brings all the tribes together to make the big announcement, Saul is nowhere to be found. God lets Samuel know he's hiding in the baggage! What in the world?! Samuel anoints Saul as the new king and most of the people rejoice, but there are some naysayers.-----
