Israel is still unrepentant in chapter 6. They talk about turning to the Lord so that he will heal them, but not because their hearts have been changed.
Verse 4: “What can I do with you, Ephraim? What can I do with you, Judah? Your love is like the morning mist, like the early dew that disappears.”-----

Chapters 7 and 8 talk about the whirlwind [of punishment] that Israel is going to reap.
Ch. 7, v. 16: “They do not turn to the Most High; they are like a faulty bow. Their leaders will fall by the sword because of their insolent words. For this they will be ridiculed in the land of Egypt.”
Ch. 8, v. 11: “Though Ephraim built many altars for sin offerings, these have become altars for sinning.”-----

Such a hard book to read – there’s so much punishment. God is not playing about this!
Verse 7: “The days of punishment are coming, the days of reckoning are at hand. Let Israel know this. Because your sins are so many and your hostility so great, the prophet is considered a fool, the inspired person a maniac.”-----

God is our Father. We know as humans how much it hurts when our children turn away from us. How much moreso with God?
Verses 1 and 2: “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. But the more they were called, the more they went away from me. They sacrificed to the Baals and they burned incense to images.”-----

Two interesting verses jumped out at me in this chapter.
Verse 2: “Now they sin more and more; they make idols for themselves from their silver, cleverly fashioned images, all of them the work of craftsmen. It is said of these people, ‘They offer human sacrifices! They kiss calf-idols!’”
Verse 4: “But I have been the Lord your God ever since you came out of Egypt. You shall acknowledge no God but me, no Savior except me.”-----
