S1 Ep159 - 2 Samuel 6

The ark of God is brought to Jerusalem in this chapter. But they didn’t carry it the way it was designed to be carried – with acacia poles. Instead, they set the ark on a new cart, and had the cart pulled by oxen.

At one point, the oxen stumbled and Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark to steady it. Verse 7 says, “The Lord’s anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down, and he died there beside the ark of God.”

I imagine touching the ark was like touching a live, electrical wire. It was filled with God’s power which has to be exponentially stronger than any electrical current we can imagine.

David was so upset about the death of Uzzah that he left the ark at someone else’s house (Obed-Edom) for three months. Finally, he went to get the ark and bring it to the City of David.

He was dancing and rejoicing as he and all Israel brought up the ark. He danced so much that he nearly danced out of his clothes, a linen ephod. His wife Michal, Saul’s daughter, was disgusted by this.

He told her in verse 22, “I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes.”
